There’s a whisper of truth I overlooked for years in my Christian journey, a profound truth about how we’re wired. I used to subconsciously believe that when I came to Christ and embraced His freedom, I automatically morphed into this independent, self-sufficient superstar. Oh, how wrong I was!

It’s actually the beautiful opposite. What truly happens is a grand liberation from my own autonomy. It’s a sweet surrender of my will to Christ’s will. I stop leaning on myself and my clever abilities, and instead, I become utterly dependent on Him in every nook and cranny of my life. And that dependence, my dear ones, is the very design for which I was created. It’s where true fullness of life is found, like finding the missing piece of a puzzle you didn’t even know you were working on.

Jesus, with His loving gaze, put it so simply:

““Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, NLT)

No, God isn’t looking for us to juggle life without His help. Quite the contrary! He delights in our reliance on Him, and He’s glorified through it. We were meticulously crafted to lean on Him!

Now, let’s be honest. Living in constant dependence on God isn’t some easy, natural stroll in the park. It’s an uphill climb, and we desperately need the Holy Spirit’s hand to navigate it. Why? Because it means standing firm against the constant drumbeat of society telling us to be our own boss. It means saying “no” to our own sinful nature’s craving to be the absolute masters of our lives, to do whatever we please. To set our own goals without a peep to God, and then pat ourselves on the back for achieving them all on our own. That kind of thinking, my friend, is a beautiful delusion.

So, let’s take a deep breath and a honest look in the mirror. How much have you genuinely depended on God lately? When was the last time your will bowed to His? Could your family, the ones who see you up close, confidently say you depend on God in every aspect? What about your co-workers or your closest friends?

I urge you, today is the day your life can completely yield to Jesus. It’s my heartfelt prayer that you accept His call to surrender everything to Him. Sometimes, even after years of walking with Him, we still cling to self-reliance. We depend on God for our eternal salvation, but then we go right back to depending on ourselves for our earthly affairs.

Today is the day, and this is the moment Jesus is calling you, once again, to live in complete dependence on Him.

What’s your decision?

Please, don’t keep this reflection to yourself! Share it with someone who needs to hear this truth. We all need to know God and depend 100% on Him.
